In-line inspection as the most effective method for corrosion condition monitoring of field pipelines

The article describes the work principles of magnetic and ultrasonic intelligent pigs. The types of pipeline defects detected by in-line inspection (ILI) are illusrated. It is maintained that modern intelligent pigs have unique technical capabilities enabling them to identify the majority of various pipeline defects. On this basis, currently ILI is considered the most effective mean for the assessment of pipeline corrosion condition.
