To evaluate the impact of different factors on the corrosion damage rate of underground pipelines the factor analysis technique has been worked out. The theory basis of this method is multivariate statistical analysis and probabilistic modeling algorithms. The method is based on a nonlinear pattern of corrosion damages. Practical application of the method will enhance the accuracy and validity in growth prediction of corrosion damages detected by in-line inspection equipment.
