The planar water is catalyst of process of iron dissolution. However water acts this role at dissolution of atoms of metal, inhering to surface planes, and partly, crossbars of crystals. The atoms of metal located in a position of kinks (ledges of mononuclear steps) are capable to dissolve without participation of adsorbed molecules of water due to their high activity.
