In order to reduce the amount of liquid and solid wastes in plating shops with relatively small output immersed electrochemical modules (IEMs) are installed in reclaim tanks and in tanks with solutions which can be regenerated. Therefore all types of chromate-based process solutions are not dumped due to regeneration. IEMs recover metals and anionic components of process solutions from reclaim tanks, reducing in this way the amount of liquid and solid wastes as well as fresh water consumption and the consumption of chemicals for making up and replenishments of process solutions and for waste treatment. IEMs cannot replace waste treatment installations in larger plating shops, however, they reduce considerably the amount of liquid and solid wastes and the consumption of chemicals and fresh water.
