The integral toxicity of solutions of a number of carboxylic acids was estimated by measuring their chemical oxygen demand (COD) and the biochemical oxygen demand for the biodegradation of substances by microorganisms (BOD5). The analytical dependences of COD and BOD5 of these compounds from their concentrations and the ratios of components in solution were established.
A coefficient was calculated on the value of which can be judged about the ability to biodegradable substances in solution.
